Joomla Tip of the Day: Don't make promises to clients

I've been waiting for a delayed update for FrontPage SlideShow (FPSS) for awhile now. It's a cool component that I paid $50 for a few months ago. I actually took it down when a couple months ago it was expected to be updated. Mainly because it did not work correctly with IE6 and why bother getting it fixed when a new update is coming. That was stupid logic on my part.

Apparently, the update had originally been promised in May, then July, then August or something and now we are deep into October and still no update.

I've posted a few nasty things because of all the time I've wasted. But a few other people have a real dilemma on their hands because they promised clients some of the features of FrontPage SlideShow but are at the whim of people they've never met and a situation they have zero control over.

Building anybody sites from Joomla software is tricky, almost shady business. If you don't develope your own software, again, you have zero control except for whatever limited funds you have to throw around.

Moral of the Story:

Don't make promises to clients. Merely present the current possibilities, not what some greasy snot nosed punk is saying in another continent. If that's not good enough, find another client. If you have enough funds, find someone to develop your own software or learn how to yourself. That's the only way to have real control over the situation.

And, as the FPSS people have proven, even then there are no guarantees.
